My life of six years,
Little hopes, successes, failures and fears,
all sealed in a few boxes.
Boxes all around me,
But blur is all that I see -
Through a pallid film of tears.
Memories come back to haunt,
So much they do taunt,
that emptiness is all I feel.
No sadness for goodbyes,
No happiness for new ties,
Nothing at all.
Just a feeling of dread,
That envelopes me like a shroud,
Sometimes emptiness is the best thing you can ever feel.

Solitude

Re posted from my old blog, just so that I don't lose it.

Silence, all around me,
As tranquil as it could be-
that I felt I could hear the grass grow.
Silence – that was music to my ears
Yet this music gives my eyes, tears.

Not a single soul in my vision,
Only the grass stretched endlessly,
Or so it seemed.
And me, the sole inhabitant
Of my own kingdom,
Reveled in the company of only my thoughts.

This feeling I crave for
And yet detest
When loneliness envelops me
Like a shroud on a dead.

As I gaze into oblivion,
Solitude puzzles me -
A feeling that nobody’s there,
And yet everybody I need is present!

Enigma

Something I wrote for some poetry event (can`t remember what) and as usual never sent it in. Found it in my drafts today. So posting it.

She floats into the room,
Many eyes turn to look at her.
While all look, some strive to see,
what lies beneath.
She boldly meets your eyes, but
they only mirror you.
You feel like you have bared your soul,
and been stripped from within.
She is cloaked in beauty -
Deep and mystic,
Shrouded in charm so magnetic -
you are caught in her spell,
in a dizzy surrender,
down you plunge,
you want to run,for help -
But you are rooted.
You can`t help but notice her,
You can touch her but you cannot feel,
She`s frigid but you feel the heat -
But it sends icy shivers down your spine.
She`s smooth and sleek as black velvet,
bathed in dark, pale moonlight.
Yet she shimmers like a mirage,
on a bright hot day.
And then you realize,
she is all but an illusion,
She stands right in front of you,
yet she could be as well an invisible force,
And then it hits you,
She is an Enigma!

The Promise.

If you wait for me then I'll come for you
Although I've traveled far
I always hold a place for you in my heart
If you think of me If you miss me once in awhile
Then I'll return to you
I'll return and fill that space in your heart
Remembering
Your touch
Your kiss
Your warm embrace
I'll find my way back to you
If you'll be waiting
If you dream of me like I dream of you
In a place that's warm and dark
In a place where I can feel the beating of your heart

Remembering
Your touch
Your kiss
Your warm embrace
I'll find my way back to you
If you'll be waiting
I've longed for you and I have desired
To see your face your smile
To be with you wherever you are

Remembering
Your touch
Your kiss
Your warm embrace
I'll find my way back to you
If you'll be waiting
I've longed for you and I have desired
To see your face, your smile
To be with you wherever you are

Remembering
Your touch
Your kiss
Your warm embrace
I'll find my way back to you
Please say you'll be waiting

Together again
It would feel so good to be
In your arms
Where all my journeys end
If you can make a promise If it's one that you can keep, I vow to come for you
If you wait for me and say you'll hold
A place for me in your heart.

- Tracy Chapman.
*You nailed it when you wrote this song*.

Now you know why I absolutely love this one.

Hey you, out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old
Can you feel me?
Hey you, dont help them to bury the light
Dont give in without a fight.

Triolet!!

My hand at writing a triolet...
And whats that now??? go here for more on triolets...

License to Rhyme
Where is the poetic licence?
Only a triolet, she says
Oh! I m not allowed any of my non-sense.
Where is the poetic licence?
Sigh! I will have to show obeisance
All the rules down she lays
Where is the poetic licence?
Only a triolet, she says.

And the main reason for writing this piece..My triolet goes to Ammani for her triolet collection!

When the sun sets...

When the sun sets….

When the sun sets and the dusk falls
Ceasing the merry bird calls,
Marking the beginning of that dark day
Known as the night, as most say,
It sends shivers down my spine –
I know it’s not the cold.

There are shadows all around
In various shapes they abound,
My eyes search for life
In stillness thick, I could cut with a knife.

Emptiness engulfs me,
And I struggle to get free
I can’t feel a thing,
And I can’t help but ponder
If I would wake up to the morning yonder.

I will miss you terribly,(though I hate to admit it),

My strand of pearls.

A milky white pearl necklace,I got,
and a wide smile on my face,it brought.
The pearls,round and smooth,
Shining softly,like a moon beam,
through a curtain seam,
and this sight, the eyes it soothed.
It feels like satin on my neck,
as once more in the mirror,I check.
I can see it in my eyes,
as I find it hard to dis-guise,
the sorrow I feel inside,
sans the one who gave me,
this beautiful piece of jewelry.

The Power of the word.

A thousand thoughts,
A countless feelings,
A million opinions,
All expressed in evanescening words.
Words that are said,
Words that fade,
Words that are believed,
Words that are understood,
Words that are hoped to have meant,
because words have many meaning,
and sometimes none at all.
Words that are sweet,
but empty,
Words that are true,
but they sting.
Words that leave a mark,
Words that are dark,
Words that enlighten,
Words that can kill,
of their own will.
Words that become music,
And words that live in many hearts!
Words meant though unspoken,
are powerful than an infinite words,
spoken,yet are not,from the heart.
"And this Song of the Vine,
This greeting of mine,
The winds and the birds shall deliver
To the Queen of the West*,
In her garlands dressed,
On the banks of the Beautiful River**"...

This is inscribed in the new fountain square in Cincinnati. By new, I mean after the whole renovation. I saw this song written there yesterday and I was totally taken in by it. Anyways,I took these four lines to memory and did some research online to find out more.

This whole poem is by H.W.Longfellow. Song of the Vine, is its name.Vine street is named so because of Vineyards !!- the street was full of grape vine plantations pioneered by a lawyer called Nicholas Longworth! A specific variety of the grape called the "Catawba", fluorished here, yielding a refreshingly unique wine of the time. And these lines are a part of the lyric he wrote about the Catawba!!

* - Cinci is called the Queen city
** - the Ohio river..Coz these plantations stretched upto the banks of the river.

The whole poem goes as follows:

Ode to Catawba Wine
By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
(Written In Praise of Longworth's Catawba Wine)

This song of mine
Is a song of the Vine
To be sung by the glowing embers
Of wayside inns,
When the rain begins
To darken the drear Novembers.

It is not a song
Of the Scuppernong,
From warm Carolinian valleys,
Nor the Isabel
And the Muscadel
That bask in our garden alleys.

Nor the red Mustang,
Whose clusters hang
O’er the waves of the Colorado,
And the fiery flood
Of whose purple blood
Has a dash of Spanish bravado.

For the richest and best
Is the wine of the West,
That grows by the Beautiful River,
Whose sweet perfume
Fills all the room
With a benison on the giver.

And as hollow trees
Are the haunts of bees,
Forever going and coming;
So this crystal hive
Is all alive
With a swarming and buzzing
and humming.

Very good in its way
Is the Verzenay,
Or the Sillery soft and creamy;
But Catawba wine
has a taste more divine,
More dulcet, delicious and dreamy.

There grows no vine
By the haunted Rhine,
By Danube or Quadalquivir,
Nor on island or cape,
That bears such a grape
As grows by the Beautiful River.

Drugged is their juice
For foreign use,
When shipped o’er
the reeling Atlantic,
To rack our brains
With the fever pains,
That have driven the
Old World Frantic.

To the sewers and sinks
With all such drinks,
And after them tumble the mixer,
For a poison malign
Is such Borgia wine,
Or at best but a Devil’s elixir.

While pure as a spring
Is the wine I sing,
And to praise it,
one needs but name it;
For Catawba wine
Has need of no sign,
No tavern-bush to proclaim it.

And this Song of the Vine,
This greeting of mine,
The winds and the birds shall deliver
To the Queen of the West,
In her garlands dressed,
On the banks of the Beautiful River.

Also very evident is the city`s German influence. In the poem, the allusions to the River Rhine,is an classic example. Early German settlers found the vieyards and the river Ohio very similar to those back home.

H.W.Longfellow published this poem in his anthology "Birds of Passage (Flight the First)" in 1858.

The wounds never did heal,
and the pain I did feel,
The scars never did fade,
even as time passed into a decade.
But I will never show,
Perhaps you will never know.
I am
just a passing cloud,
just a tear drop in the vast ocean,
just a burning ember in the blazing fire of passion,
just a word that is unspoken,
just a figment of your imagination.
Remember me when I m gone,
far away to an unknown land,
where the sands
of time,stand still,
and everything is eternal,
yet as ephemeral,
as our lives
on this earth.
When everything ceases
to exist,
my memories outlive,
long enough to forgive,
the follies of those,
who just chose,
to dismember,
the vestiges of my efforts.

Alter ego

I trudge alone,
along streets of cobbled stone,
in the cold and gloomy night,
under a looming shadow of fright.
I know I have been there before,
unfeeling and dead as a corpse,
all cold and bitter,
when I heard a whisper.
A voice so soothing,
that a smile it did bring.
And through the darkness walked a light,
But he was was no angel and no knight.
with outstretched arms, he welcomed me,
and finally did I see,
that we were born for each other,
so many years ago -
Me and my alter ego.

You Just Made My Day!!!

walking in the clueless wild,
i hear ur words.
tellin me 'i am there
so just keep goin on'
carrying my lonely soul,
over this gruesome life-
belittlin to be
but u were there for me.
and when i sail through the lane,
of joyous memories spent together.
together those happy years-
dont u wish to be there again.
on this day ,some twenty years ago,
were u born for me, my friend
and i for thee.

- Thank you. You Soooooooooooooooooo absolutely JUST rock!!

Guest Post!

For the first time in the illustrous (!!) history of this blogspot,I present a poem by my friend and alter-ego G!!
Here goes..

To you whom Im yet to meet

when i fall from the highest stands
to lowest lows with no falling hands
theres always that me that says never
to let someone near me ever
but ive heard that before
and i dust my spirit once more
and meet souls anew
and shake hands again with my heart still true
so my future friend listen and listen well
ive been hurt and ive hurt many as well
i wont let u in my mind soon
but ur name mite be the one it croons
we mite hug like minks
we mite even fight like spoiled dinks
u mite leave me in my fears
or u could be the one that ends up in tears

but this i promise
if u get into my heart and i urs

ill have tears in my eyes
for both ur happiness and sorrow
ill be there thro ur confessions and lies
and ill promise a new tomorrow
ill take all ur woes unto me
and set ur worries free
and even if time and nature does tear us apart
till i die ull live in my heart

- GM

Moments...

Moments...

Magical, mystic...
So strong, yet so subtle,
Moments so priceless,
Moments that are lived,
then relived,
again and again,
yet again,
until eternity.
Moments that haunt you, with memories...
Memories that last a lifetime,
And then they fade away,
leaving behind an inexplicable sense of emptiness!
