The long, white coated, figure glided along the hallowed hallways of the 7th floor,which is my second home.I was just getting off the elevator into the hall. And from where I stood,I could see the person disappear into a turn in the corridor (or so I thought)!
Anyways,such white coated people (read lab rats) are a common sight in this place at all times of the day.So,it dint strike me as anything odd at around 11:45 PM on a sunday night. From that distance,it did not look like anybody I knew. Must be a new student from the other labs, I dismissed. Ahh,well. I went into my office and emerged a white coated figure myself,walked down the corridor and unlocked my lab. Once inside I went about my work. It is certainly good to be able to work undisturbed, but its something else when you know that you probably are the only person around on the floor.Well, the "other" person I assumed technically has his office in Rhodes,so he/she is not on the same 7th floor (my lab is in ERC)!Eerie slience, interrupted only by the hiss of the air ducts and the beep of the furnace in my lab.
About 20 minutes later,I hear my lab door open and close. No,its not the wind,because I locked it and it cant be just opened from the outside,it needs a key.Thinking its somebody looking for me,I step out into the corridor....I see the white coated figure walking...no wait!he/she/(it?) is actually gliding a few feet above the ground ahead of me. I just keep staring at the apparition and it turns...All I see is gleaming green eyes. It turns away and in less than a microsecond vanishes!
And realization dawns on me..Its the same figure I saw earlier..and it was really gliding on air and did not disappear into a turn or door but into thin air!!
Sigh!What could I do? I just went back to my work.At least I wasnt alone..heh!
There was someone else working the graveyard shift too!!
